In 2010, Joel returned to Northern California. After years of refining his craft working for others, he founded Houchin Construction Inc.—bringing that same high-end, detail-obsessed approach to homeowners in Shasta County who wanted quality work from someone they could trust.

Today, after 28 years in the trade and over eight years running his own business, Joel has built a company that reflects how he was taught to work: pride in the craft, honesty with clients, and teams that hold themselves to the highest standards. His business runs almost entirely on referrals—homeowners telling their friends and neighbors about the contractor who showed up, shot straight, and delivered exactly what he promised.

Whether it's a kitchen remodel, a bathroom renovation, a home addition, or a custom build, the approach is always the same: get the bid right the first time, do the work to spec, pull the proper permits, and stand behind the finished project.

Joel Houchin's construction career started the way the best ones do—learning from family.

At 16 years old, Joel worked alongside his dad to build a house from the ground up. That experience taught him something that's guided his work ever since: there are no shortcuts to quality.

After several years of construction work in Northern California, Joel moved to Bend, Oregon, where he joined high-end custom home builders. There, he managed projects and developed teams to construct homes where every detail mattered—homes where clients expected perfection and budgets weren't the limiting factor. It was exacting work that demanded precision, problem-solving, and an unwillingness to let anything slide.
